Free WiFi at Superweek for all Riders & Spectators! [UPDATE: calls too!]

Verizon Mifi

We will be offering free wifi for all riders and spectators at the 2010 International Cycling Classic (aka Superweek).

The team will be at all of the weekend stages and several weekday stages two hours before the Pro 1/2 race and we’ll leave the wifi on throughout the race. You can stop by the team tent (or within 50 feet of us) and jump on to check in with your social network, send some race reports or place those last minute Rouleur Derby bets! The network to search for is “Verizon Team Wifi” and the code is still 0987654321

UPDATE: We also have Motorola Devours and push-to-talk phones that you can use to jump online or make free phone calls.

See you at the races!

Free Wifi at the Iowa Memorial Day Weekend Races!

We’ll be piping out free Wifi all weekend from the Verizon Team Truck at the Iowa Memorial Day Weekend Races. We’ll also have our Verizon enabled netbook on hand if you didn’t bring your own computer.

Plus on Monday in Rock Island we’ll be joined by the Verizon street team where you can check out all the latest Verizon phones, make FREE phone calls and jump on the netbooks to let your social network how the weekend’s going.

This password for this weekend’s Wifi is slightly trickier than the past two weekends: “0987654321″. See you there!

Free Wi-Fi Access at Monsters & FRG

We’ll be offering free wi-fi access for riders, officials and significant others from the Verizon p/b ABD team car at this weekend’s Monsters of the Midway and Fox River Grove races.

Just head on over to the team vehicle and we’ll have Verizon MiFis broadcasting a WiFi signal, some Droids to play around with and a 3G enabled netbook.

The password to jump on the MiFi’s is 1234567890 … yes, the same code an idiot would put on his luggage, just longer.

Race Day WiFi Access & Live Video This Weekend!

The Verizon u25 Team p/b ABD is proud to start offering race day WiFi access and live video feeds this weekend at the Hillsboro Roubaix Road Race in Hillsboro, Illinois. The team will be on-site starting around 9 a.m. and will be broadcasting a wifi signal from their team vehicle for up to 10 users at a time. In addition, the team will also have a Verizon 3G-enabled netbook available for public use and riders and staff’s Motorola Droids can be used to stream live video at points throughout the day. (The WiFi signals will be broadcast even when the team is out racing).

Any live videos the team captures will be streamed at www.qik.com/vzwcycling and uploaded to the YouTube channel at http://www.verizoncyclingteam.com/gallery/video/

The team invites and riders, officials or spectators to use any of the devices to tweet, blog, or upload photos or videos about your race and your team.

Passwords for the MiFi devices are available by calling 818-396-7713 and listening to a 10 second message (it is not a marketing message and your information will never be shared). The password will change every weekend but this will most likely be the number to call into.

In order to access the MiFi devices, just head over to the team car and search for SSID’s “Verizon MiFi Secure …”. (SSID’s are the name of the wifi signal the devices are sending out). Punch in the password and you’re all set! Since we are only able to accommodate so many users at a time please limit your sessions to 15 minutes if others are waiting.

See you at the race!

Verizon Supports New u25 Program & Race Day Hotspots

Verizon Wireless, America’s largest wireless service provider, has thrown their support behind a new Midwest-based under 25 Men’s team for 2010, the Verizon u25 Team powered by ABD. The ABD Cycle Club stepped in as the team’s presenting sponsor, bringing along their proven track record of developing young talent.  The team is based out of the Chicago area and in 2010 features an 8-man roster: Ryan Freund, Waylon Janowiak, Luca Lenzi, John Meyers, Will Nowak, Danny Robertson, Mike Sherer and Hogan Sills. Mike Ebert comes on from ABD to direct the team.

In addition to their financial support, Verizon brings their extensive wireless data network to the table. Team members have been equipped with Motorola Droids to stay connected and document their season, and the team will also have Verizon’s MiFi devices to create a wireless data hotspot at races they attend— providing access for riders, spectators and race officials.

Verizon has supported a successful Master’s team for the past two seasons and continues to do so in 2010. Master’s team captain Mark Swartzendruber is excited for the addition of the young talent, “It’s been a goal of mine along with [team founder] Billy Dwyer to use the backing Verizon has given us to develop talented young riders and give them the support they need to reach their best potential in this beautiful sport.  Partnering with ABD and Mike Ebert is the ideal situation for us in this endeavor as they bring a great deal of experience and quality into the fold.”

The ABD Cycle Club helped to send 12 riders to the pro ranks over the past seven years, including current Kelly Benefit Strategies riders Reid Mumford and Bissel captain Frank Pipp, and young ABD standout Jessica Prinner represented the U.S. at the Junior World Championships in Moscow last year.

The Verizon u25 p/b ABD is also proud to give back to the community through their support of the XXI Century Kids First Foundation. XXI Century Kids First is dedicated to developing and implementing kids’ self-esteem and nutritional programs. The team plans to assist at after school programs in the Chicago area.

Team sponsors include Prairie Path Cycles, Trek, VIO-POV cameras, Button Hole chamois cream,  Serfas, Pactimo Clothing, EJ’s Place and Podium Financial Services.

Stay tuned to the team’s Twitter feed @vzwU25cycling for the latest updates, including details on race-day MiFi access, and become a fan of the team at Facebook.com/VerizonU25Cycling.
